Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai chaired the meeting Intergovernmental Committee Vietnam – Netherlands


The Việt Nam-Netherlands intergovernmental committee convened a meeting on climate change adaptation and water management on August 11 in Hà Nội.

The meeting aimed to realize the Partnership Agreement on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management which was reached by Vietnamese Prime Nguyen Tan Dung and his Dutch counterpart Jan Peter Balkenende.

Earlier, at the intergovernmental committee’s first meeting which was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander in March 2011, the two sides discussed ways to boost cooperation in water management, climate change adaptation, ecosystems, especially the implementation of a Mekong Delta Plan, planning on urban and rural development, flooding control, wastewater treatment, and financial institution building.

Based on the outcomes of the previous meeting, the committee defined the establishment of interdisciplinary coordination committees and working groups to beef up the Mekong Delta Plan, and projects on climate change, water and land management and sea level rise between the two sides.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked the intergovernmental committee to promptly fulfill the signed agreement especially the Mekong Delta Plan, projects on development scenarios and the building of institutions./.
