Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải on July 19 gave an order for the construction of the Quảng Trạch 1 Thermo-electric Plant, the biggest of its kind in Việt Nam, to be started.
The plant is located in Quảng Đông Commune, Quảng Trạch District in the central province of Quảng Bình.

With a capacity of 1,200MW per day, the US $1.2 billion plant will be the largest fossil fuel thermo-electric plant in the country when it is completed and operates by the end of 2015. The plant is expected to supply the nation about 8.4 billion kWh per year.
The plant uses pulverized coal-fired technology with imported coal in order to ensure high efficiency and eco-friendliness.
This key project was listed in the Master Power Development Plan in the 2006-2015 period.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, the Deputy PM asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to instruct the two key contractors — PetroVietnam Engineering Consultancy Co (PVE) and PetroVietnam Construction Corp (PVX) to finish the plant as scheduled and prepare for the construction of Quảng Trạch 2 Thermo-electric Plant./.
